For a school day-care centre in Gasperich, Vitralux installed the largest single-pane glass canopy in Luxembourg: an oversized triple-laminated pane, with certified structural calculations and anchorages designed specifically for this one project.

Safety first: laminated glass with heat-strengthened plies
Every Vitralux canopy is made from laminated glass with heat-strengthened plies (VSG/TVG). If the glass breaks, it holds together and stays in the frame — a basic rule for any overhead glazing, and the same requirement we apply to our certified laminated glass balustrades.
From a small canopy over a front door to the XXL canopy of a public building, every pane is cut and worked in our Howald workshop, with dedicated structural calculations wherever sizes or loads demand them. Our systems come from two leading manufacturers: Pauli & Sohn and Glassline.

Canopy on adjustable stays
The canopy rests on stainless steel anchors and adjustable stays fixed to the façade. The glass falls away to the front so water always runs off. A robust system, at home in large formats.

Canopy on tie rods
The canopy hangs from stainless steel tie rods anchored in the façade. An elegant solution with a light visual footprint. Less common, available on specific request.

Canopy Cloud
A self-supporting canopy carried on an ultra-slim profile fixed straight to the façade — a single fixing line, with no visible arms or tie rods. Ideal where the façade leaves little room, for instance a window directly above the door. Installed several times in Howald, in Bonnevoie and in Luxembourg City.

Made-to-measure glass windbreak

Solutions for insulated façades (EWI)
External wall insulation makes fixing a canopy far less straightforward. Vitralux works with two thermally broken solutions — with the same care we bring to our glass façades.
Fix'n Slide — Glassline
A thermally broken fixing block set into the façade, compatible with the Canopy Cloud system. The canopy is fixed without creating a cold bridge through the insulation.
Amo-Therm
Special thermally broken screws: fixed straight through the insulation with no cold bridge. The economical option on an EWI façade.

Frequently asked questions about glass canopies
Plain toughened glass breaks into thousands of small pieces that fall straight down. Above an entrance, that risk is unacceptable. Laminated glass with heat-strengthened plies holds together even when broken: the fragments stay bonded to the interlayer and the pane stays in the frame until our team can attend.
Yes. Vitralux has two solutions for exactly this: the Fix'n Slide system by Glassline (a thermally broken fixing block) and Amo-Therm screws (fixed through the insulation). Both allow a canopy to be installed without creating a cold bridge and without compromising the energy performance of the building.
Yes. LED lighting can be integrated into the structure or into the glass itself. Several systems are available — talk to Vitralux and we will advise you on the one that suits your project.
Yes. Every pane is cut and worked in the Vitralux workshop in Howald. Large formats sometimes call for dedicated structural calculations beforehand — as they did on the XXL canopy for the school day-care centre in Gasperich.
