Exceptional demands call for particular materials
A sauna puts its glazed elements under exceptional strain: high temperatures (between 70 and 100 degrees depending on the type of sauna), abrupt swings in temperature every time the door opens, intense humidity in a steam room, and frequent contact with hot surfaces. Not every glass will take those conditions: only good toughened glass, chosen specifically for high-temperature use, gives you safety and a satisfying working life.

The door can be entirely in toughened glass, or in timber with glazing set into it, depending on the style of the sauna.
Glass screens between the sauna and the space next to it let you see inside from without, let the light through and create visual continuity between the two areas. The glass solutions for your sauna
- Door entirely in glass — The whole face of the door is toughened glass. A very contemporary, light-filled effect. Available in clear, satin-etched (translucent) or tinted glass. A handle in heat-resistant timber or stainless steel.
- Timber door with glazing — The door is mostly sauna timber with one or more panes set into it. A traditional, warm look. Vitralux makes the glazing to measure so that it fits the timber door supplied by your sauna builder.
- Glass screen — A fixed pane of glass between the sauna and the adjoining space (a corridor, a relaxation room, the shower outside). It creates visual continuity and lets the light through. Clear or satin-etched glass depending on how much privacy you want.
- Sauna with a full glass wall — One or more sides of the sauna are entirely in toughened glass: the sauna becomes an architectural element within the spa area. The premium answer for hotels and prestige projects.

Your questions about sauna doors and screens
The toughened glass Vitralux uses in saunas is chosen specifically to withstand rapid changes in temperature. When you open the door of a hot sauna, cold air from outside meets hot glass: that difference in temperature sets up a thermal stress that only glass of the right quality will take year after year. Vitralux tells you in the quotation which glass suits the temperature of your sauna.
Yes. Satin-etched glass (acid-etched or sandblasted) is translucent: it lets the light through while hiding the outlines behind it. It is the ideal answer for saunas where privacy matters without giving up a light, attractive look. The etching can cover the whole pane or only part of it — the bottom third of the door, for instance.
Yes. The 304 or 316 stainless steel used for sauna profiles will not rot and resists heat, steam and everyday cleaning products. It is the benchmark material for every hot, damp environment. Untreated aluminium profiles and ordinary ironmongery are not suitable in a sauna.
