Made-to-Measure Step-Free Shower — Access, Safety and Dignity for Everyone
An accessible shower is no compromise on quality: it is a complete, made-to-measure shower designed to be used by everyone. Vitralux builds every one of them to the same standard as its most prestigious projects.

Rigorous design for universal use
The accessible shower is designed around particular accessibility requirements: level access with no threshold, enough room for a wheelchair, an opening that takes no effort (sliding for preference), a grab rail and laminated safety glass. In buildings open to the public, those features are often a regulatory obligation.
Vitralux builds made-to-measure step-free showers across Luxembourg for every kind of premises: hospitals, rest homes, nursing homes, medical facilities, hotels and communal accommodation, and private homes for people with reduced mobility. Every installation follows a measuring visit and an assessment of the particular constraints of the space.
The Vitralux step-free shower meets the same standards of quality as everything else we build: laminated safety glass, robust profiles, durable seals and careful finishing. Accessibility does not mean less quality — it means more rigorous design.
The main principles of an accessible shower
The exact regulatory requirements depend on the type of premises and on the Luxembourg standards in force. Vitralux does not offer definitive regulatory advice: the principles below are the ones generally accepted for accessible showers, to be confirmed with your inspection body.
Level access
No threshold between the bathroom and the shower area. The floor runs through with a slight fall towards the waste. Slip-resistant tiling is recommended.
Manoeuvring space
Enough room to turn a wheelchair is needed close to the opening. The exact dimension is set by the standards that apply to your premises.
How it opens
The sliding door suits best: it does not project into the manoeuvring space and takes little effort to move. The permissible opening force is checked against the standards that apply.
Safety glass
Laminated glass is compulsory: the fragments are held together if it breaks. EN 12600 or equivalent — the same safety logic as for the accessible mirror.
Grab rail
A horizontal or L-shaped rail inside the shower, fixed securely into the masonry. Whether it is supplied and fitted by Vitralux or by a specialist contractor is settled project by project.
Technical documents
Vitralux supplies the technical data sheets for the glass so that your inspection body can sign the installation off.
A complete accessible installation
The safety glass follows the same logic as on the tilting accessible mirror, the natural companion to a step-free shower. And for easier upkeep in communal buildings, consider our limescale protection for shower screens.

Your questions about the step-free shower
No. Plenty of private clients choose a step-free shower for their own home, thinking ahead to later life, adapting the house for a relative with reduced mobility, or simply because level access is more comfortable and safer for everyone. The step-free shower is a universal answer that suits every age and every situation.
Absolutely. Vitralux builds step-free showers with the same glass and the same finishes as all its other shower screens: Clarvista glass, tinted glass, digital printing, a black or gold finish. Accessibility and good looks are not at odds with one another.
The genuine accessible arrangement is level, with no threshold. That said, some ultra-slim trays (less than 3 cm high) may be acceptable under the standards that apply. Vitralux assesses feasibility and compliance during the measuring visit.
