When the space opens up and the light runs through
The walk-in shower is defined by the absence of a door: one or more panes of glass keep the water off the rest of the room without shutting the shower away. Access is direct, the space reads as one, and the light spreads with nothing in its way. It is the configuration interior designers reach for first in high-end contemporary bathrooms.
Vitralux makes made-to-measure walk-in showers across Luxembourg in three configurations: with a bracing bar running across to the opposite wall, with corner bracing that holds the screens steady where they meet, and full height from floor to ceiling for the strongest architectural effect. Every configuration comes in all the glass types and finishes in the Vitralux range.
The key to a walk-in shower that works is precision in the making and quality in the fitting: glass that is not perfectly plumb, a joint that is not perfectly clean, profiles slightly out of line — all of it shows at once in a pared-back space where there is nowhere to hide an imperfection. Three configurations to suit every space
With a bracing bar across the opening
The bracing bar is a horizontal metal bar (stainless steel or powder-coated aluminium) fixed between the glass screen and the opposite wall. It holds the screen steady sideways and allows slimmer profiles, or even lets the glass be fixed with no side profiles at all. It is the most common configuration and the one that suits most spaces.
- Ideal for: bathrooms wide enough to run a bar across to the opposite wall
- Bar finish: chrome, matt black or gold — to match the finish you have chosen
- Look: discreet and clean — the bar is slim and does not draw the eye away from the glass
With corner bracing
Corner bracing is used where the walk-in shower is formed of two panes of glass meeting at an angle (an L or a T arrangement). The corners are held by hinges or corner profiles that keep the whole thing rigid without a bar running across. This configuration is ideal for corner showers where two panes of glass form the enclosure.
- Ideal for: corner showers, an L arrangement, a square or rectangular tray in a corner
- Strength: excellent — the corner itself stiffens the whole arrangement
- Look: minimalist — no bar running across, corner profiles only
Full height
The full-height walk-in shower is the architectural choice above all others: the glass runs from floor to ceiling with no profile at the bottom (the glass sits straight into a channel in the tiling) and none at the top (the glass is fixed directly to the ceiling). The effect is that of an architectural glass wall set into the room.
- Ideal for: ambitious architectural projects, large bathrooms, prestige showers
- Requirement: a perfectly level ceiling — checked during the measuring visit
- Glass: 10 mm recommended at greater heights — maximum height on request

Your questions about the walk-in shower
That is the question we are asked most often. The answer comes down to the design: a well-planned walk-in shower, with a screen of adequate width and a shower head pointed the right way, lets very little water out of the shower area. The general rule is that the screen should extend at least 30 to 40 cm beyond the shower head on each side. Our advisers assess the arrangement during the measuring visit.
A true wet room is laid level: the shower floor is the same floor as the rest of the bathroom, with a slight fall towards the waste. That arrangement calls for perfect waterproofing of the floor. It is equally possible to use an ultra-slim resin or glass tray, which sits discreetly within the tiled floor. Vitralux makes the screen either way.
The bracing bar links the glass screen horizontally to the opposite wall: it suits a shower set between two walls with a single pane of glass. Corner bracing suits two panes meeting at an angle, where the corners are stiffened by corner profiles. Which one you need comes down to the shape of your space.
Yes, and in large bathrooms that is often the most practical arrangement: a large fixed screen protects most of the space, and a small moving panel (hinged or pivoting) can close the access when you want it to. That hybrid arrangement is also known as a walk-in shower with a return panel.
