Made-to-Measure Hinged Shower Enclosure — A Tight Seal and Real Strength
The hinged door is the strongest and the tightest of all the shower enclosure arrangements. It closes to within a millimetre, seals perfectly and stands up to heavy use for decades.

The hinge: the most reliable and the longest-lasting way to close a shower
The shower enclosure with a hinged door is the arrangement that brings together a tight seal, strength and good looks better than any other. The door hangs on one or two fixed hinges that let it swing with complete precision. Closed, the seals on the door press evenly against the fixed glass and the profiles: the enclosure is as watertight as it gets.
Vitralux makes made-to-measure hinged enclosures across Luxembourg in two main arrangements: glass-to-glass hinges (the glass door swings straight off the fixed glass panel, with no side profiles at all) and wall-to-glass hinges (the door swings on a hinge fixed into the wall, the stronger arrangement for large doors). The hinges are available in every finish in the range.
The hinged enclosure is particularly well suited to bathrooms where the shower is used intensively or at high water pressure, to hotels and communal buildings that need maximum robustness, and to clients who want a long-lasting answer with no compromise on the seal.
Glass-to-glass or wall-to-glass hinge: which should you choose?
Glass-to-glass hinge
The glass door swings straight off the fixed glass panel on a special hinge. This is the cleanest arrangement of all: no side profile is visible on the fixed panel. Ideal for partly enclosed walk-in showers and for small enclosures. The hinge has to be a good one, to carry the weight of the glass.
- Ideal for: partly enclosed walk-in showers, small enclosures
- Look: the cleanest of all — no side profile visible on the fixed panel
- Requirement: high-quality hinges to carry the weight of the glass
Wall-to-glass hinge
The door swings on a hinge fixed directly into the wall. This is the strongest arrangement: the hinge is anchored in the masonry and carries large 8 or 10 mm glass doors without any difficulty. Ideal for wide openings and high-end projects.
- Ideal for: wide openings, large doors, high-end projects
- Strength: at its greatest — the hinge is anchored in the masonry
- Glass: 8 mm standard — 10 mm carried without difficulty

Which glass should you choose for your hinged enclosure?
All five glass types — every one of them toughened as standard — are available on this configuration just as they are on the others. They are described in full on the Shower screens category page.
- Standard toughened — The classic choice: 8 mm, clear and safe
- Clarvista (beading effect) — Water-repellent treatment — less limescale, easier upkeep
- Tinted toughened — Grey · Bronze · Green · Blue — colour through the body of the glass
- Digital printing — Your own design applied before toughening — permanent
- Arcon Decochrome — Mirrored or gold — hotel prestige

Four finishes to choose from
Hinges, profiles and handles come in the same colours as the whole shower screen range.
- Chrome — The classic finish, and the one that suits everything
- Matt black — Contemporary, minimalist and very much in demand
- Gold — Luxurious, ideal on high-end hotel projects
- RAL of your choice — A perfect fit with the overall mood of the bathroom

Your questions about the hinged shower enclosure
Either is possible. Opening outwards is the more common: it takes nothing away from the space inside the shower. Opening inwards is chosen when there is not enough room in front of the door for it to swing clear. Vitralux settles the best direction of opening during the measuring visit.
The hinges Vitralux uses are stainless steel or treated aluminium, made specifically for damp environments. They do not rust under normal bathroom use. Rinsing the hinges with clean water after each shower lengthens their life and keeps limescale deposits at bay.
Yes, with the glass-to-glass hinge arrangement: the door swings straight off the fixed panel, with no side profile. The head and the base can be handled without a visible profile too, using a neatly run silicone joint. The result is an enclosure where only the hinges and a handle are visible, which looks exceptionally clean.
