The enemy of shower glazing

Stop limescale taking hold, from day one

Limescale is the enemy of shower glazing and of every glazed surface that meets water: it works its way into the microscopic pores of the glass and grows harder to remove as the years pass. Limescale protection creates an ultra-smooth, water-repellent surface that stops limescale taking hold.

Vitralux offers this treatment on new glazing and on glazing already in place — not least on all our made-to-measure glass shower screens.

Two ways to apply it

Factory or on site: how does it work?

Type of treatmentDetail
Factory treatment (on new glass)The treatment is applied to the glass surface in the factory, before delivery. Optimal, even and permanent protection. Available on shower screens and mirrors ordered from Vitralux.
On-site treatment (existing glass)A water-repellent product is applied on site to glass already in place. Very effective, and it lasts several years depending on upkeep. It can be renewed.
Beading effectWater droplets and limescale bead up and run off without clinging. Cleaning comes down to one pass with a squeegee after the shower.
CompatibilityWorks with every type of glass (toughened, laminated, clear, satin-finish) and with every shower screen layout.

The Vitralux tip

Limescale protection applied straight after a new shower screen goes in works far better than on glass that has already scaled up. Vitralux recommends it as a matter of course on every glass shower screen.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about limescale protection

Limescale works its way into the microscopic pores of the glass and grows harder to remove as the years pass. Limescale protection creates an ultra-smooth, water-repellent surface that stops limescale taking hold: water droplets bead up and run off without clinging.

Yes. Vitralux applies a water-repellent product on site to the glass in place. It is very effective and lasts several years depending on upkeep, and it can be renewed. That said, a treatment applied straight after a new screen goes in still works better than one applied to glass that has already scaled up.

Yes. Thanks to the beading effect, cleaning comes down to one pass with a squeegee after the shower: water and limescale no longer cling to the glass, which stays clear for far longer.

Limescale protection works with every type of glass — toughened, laminated, clear, satin-finish — and with every shower screen layout. Vitralux recommends it as a matter of course on every glass shower screen.
