Made-to-Measure Plain Mirrors — The Timeless Classic
Our most versatile product: a silvered mirror cut to your exact sizes, in a choice of thicknesses, shapes and edge finishes.

Cut to measure, finished by hand
The plain mirror is our most versatile product, and the one we are asked for most often. Its strength is its simplicity: a sheet of high-quality silvered glass, cut in our Luxembourg workshop to the exact sizes you want, with the edge finished to your taste and to the constraints of the installation.
Vitralux makes made-to-measure plain mirrors for every kind of space: bathrooms, dressing rooms, hallways, living rooms, shops and hotels. Every mirror is designed to sit perfectly in its surroundings, whether that is a standard format above a basin or a large made-to-measure mirror covering a whole wall.
We offer three thicknesses, chosen for the use and the size: 4 mm for everyday formats and decorative work, 6 mm for large sizes or frameless mirrors — stiffer, and with a slightly sharper reflection — and 8 mm for very large formats. Every mirror can be made rectangular, square, out of square, or in any other shape set by you or your architect.
The edge finishes available are the raw cut edge (for building into a frame or a recess, where the edge is not seen), the flat polished edge (clean and contemporary), the bevelled polished edge (the classic, elegant finish that catches the light) and the rounded edge (no sharp arris, ideal where children are about). The mirror can be fixed to the wall by invisible bonding with a special mirror adhesive, by stainless steel mirror screws, by concealed clips, or in an aluminium or timber frame.

Frequently asked questions about the made-to-measure plain mirror
The flat polished edge is smooth and clean, and sits at 90° to the face of the mirror. It is the most contemporary and the most discreet finish. The bevelled edge is a 45° chamfer ground along the arris of the mirror: it catches the light and creates an elegant decorative effect. The bevel is the classic finish on quality mirrors in traditional and period interiors.
Yes. Our workshop cuts any shape on CNC machines: round, oval, hexagonal, an arc of a circle, or entirely made to measure to a template supplied by you or your architect. The edge can be flat polished or bevelled, depending on the shape and on what you prefer.
A plain mirror can be bonded to tiling with a special acid-free mirror adhesive — the acid in ordinary silicones attacks the silvering. The surface has to be perfectly clean, dry and free of grease. For large formats or heavy mirrors, we recommend combining the adhesive with stainless steel mirror screws. Our technicians work out the best fixing when they come to measure up.
Once the longest dimension of a mirror passes 100 cm, we always recommend 6 mm. The thicker glass is stiffer, it reduces the risk of a distorted reflection and it carries the weight of the fixings better. Below 100 cm a side, 4 mm is generally enough.
Yes. The Vitralux plain mirror is made with a corrosion-resistant backing, suited to damp rooms. In areas directly exposed to splashing (immediately behind or inside a shower), we recommend extra protection on the back and a perimeter joint in neutral-cure silicone, so that nothing can get in behind the mirror. If the area is very damp, a laminated safety mirror may be the better choice.
Yes. Fitting is carried out by our own technicians and can be included in the job. We work throughout the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The installation conditions (access, type of substrate, fixings wanted) are assessed when we come to measure up beforehand.
Looking after a plain mirror could hardly be simpler. Use a glass cleaner with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive products, rough sponges and cleaners with concentrated ammonia, which can damage the silvering over time. Do not let water collect between the bottom edge of the mirror and its substrate.
