A mirror designed to do faces justice

The light in a bathroom is among the most important in the house. Too cool and it drains the complexion; too warm and it hides the detail; too dim and it is simply no use at all.

The made-to-measure Vitralux LED mirror answers all three: dimmable backlighting, adjustable colour temperature and lighting designed to do faces justice.

Made to measure, in our own workshop

Every mirror is made in our Luxembourg workshop to your exact sizes, with the LED strip around the perimeter or on the face. You choose the functions: dimming, colour temperature from 2,700 K to 6,500 K, a demister and a magnifying mirror.

Before fitting, our advisers talk you through the electrical work needed behind the mirror — ideally at refurbishment stage, before the tiling goes on.

What the LED mirror does

Every function, explained plainly

The Vitralux LED mirror is available with the following functions, combined however you need them.

01

LED backlighting

An LED strip runs around the back edge of the mirror, out of direct sight. The light washes onto the wall and creates a soft, even halo — no glare, and no hard shadows on the face. This indirect light is the most flattering there is: it lights both sides evenly, avoids shadows under the nose and the chin, and gives a natural complexion. Configurations: a perimeter strip (a halo on all four sides), a side strip (which removes every shadow from the face) or a top strip (vertical studio-style lighting, depending on the model).

  • Perimeter LED strip: an even halo on all four sides of the mirror
  • Side LED strips: light on each side of the face, removing every shadow
  • Top LED strip: vertical studio-style lighting, depending on the model
02

Dimmable brightness

Set the light level anywhere from 10% to 100% to suit the time of day: full brightness in the morning to get ready properly, a softer light in the evening for a relaxing bath, the lowest setting at night as a gentle night light. Dimming is controlled by a touch switch built into the frame of the mirror, or by touching the surface directly. Some models can also be controlled by remote or by smartphone.

  • Range: from 10% to 100% brightness
  • Control: a touch switch built into the frame or the edge of the mirror
03

Adjustable colour temperature

Measured in kelvin (K), colour temperature decides whether the light reads as warm or cool. It is one of the most valuable functions an LED mirror has: the right colour temperature is the difference between a complexion that looks fresh and one that looks exhausted. For professional make-up, or for judging a complexion accurately, a range between 3,500 and 5,000 K reproduces natural daylight — the benchmark for judging colour and texture.

04

The demister

A heating film built in behind the glass keeps the surface just above room temperature, so that condensation cannot form. The mirror stays perfectly clear straight after a shower — no wiping, no waiting. The heater comes on with the LED lighting and has no effect at all on the visible face of the mirror. Available on every Vitralux LED mirror, whatever its size.

  • How it works: a heating film behind the glass
  • Switching: on with the LED lighting, or from a separate switch
  • Available on every Vitralux LED mirror, whatever its size
05

The built-in magnifying mirror

A small area of the main mirror surface is given a concave curve that magnifies the image, ideal for anything that needs precision: shaping eyebrows, applying kohl, shaving closely, skincare. That area usually sits in the lower corner of the mirror, discreetly framed, and is lit by the same LED system as the rest of the glass.

06

The TV mirror option

The premium version of the LED mirror: a high-definition screen sits behind semi-transparent glass. Switched off, the mirror looks like any other; switched on, the picture comes through the glass with excellent quality. It is much in demand in hotel suites, designer bathrooms and high-end wellness suites — and it is set out in detail further down this page.

Guide to the electrical work

Preparing the wiring for your LED mirror — what to plan for

Important — plan it before the tiling goes on

An LED mirror needs a dedicated supply behind where it will hang. That preparation has to be done BEFORE the tiling goes on. Failing to run that conduit in advance is much the most common mistake in a bathroom refurbishment with an LED mirror.

What the electrician needs to allow for

  • A cable outlet centred behind where the mirror is to hang.
  • A dedicated circuit with an RCD suited to damp rooms (IP44 as a minimum in the zone near the shower).
  • The exact position of the cable outlet, agreed with Vitralux before the electrician starts.
  • The cable must not stand proud of the wall: it should come out into the conduit with a discreet, sealed connection.

The right moment to run the conduit

  • New build: in the drawings, before the slab is poured or the partitions go up.
  • Full refurbishment: before the wall tiling goes on — as soon as the position of the mirror is settled.
  • Replacing an existing mirror: check whether there is already a cable outlet behind the current one.

Vitralux gives you the exact electrical specification (cable type, load, position) when you order, so that your electrician can prepare the work properly.

01

Surface-mounted mirror

The cable comes out centred within the area the mirror covers — usually at mid-height or in the upper third.

02

Mirror in a recess

The cable comes out centred in the back of the recess — the recess hides the wiring completely.

03

Mirror with an aluminium frame

The cable can come out at the back, hidden by the frame — confirm the exact position with Vitralux.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the LED mirror and the TV mirror

A backlit mirror carries its LEDs behind the glass, out of sight. The light washes onto the wall and creates a soft halo around the mirror — no visible source, no glare. It is the better-looking option. A front-lit mirror carries its LEDs on the visible face, usually in bars at the sides or along the top. It lights the face directly, which works very well for make-up and close shaving, but it is less discreet. Vitralux mainly offers perimeter backlighting, for the better result it gives.

Yes, and it is the single most important thing to plan for. An LED mirror needs a mains cable outlet (230 V) centred behind where it is to hang. That outlet has to be provided BEFORE the wall tiling goes on. If you are refurbishing a bathroom, tell your electrician at the very start of the work. Vitralux gives you the exact electrical specification when you order.

In a wall that is already tiled with no conduit, the cleanest answer is to run the cable inside a trunking or behind a discreet finishing profile. Another option is an LED mirror with a rechargeable battery, but both the running time and the light output are limited. In the great majority of cases, we advise running the conduit right at the start of the work.

For make-up, a colour temperature between 3,500 and 5,000 K is ideal. It reproduces natural daylight, which is the benchmark for judging colour and texture reliably. With an adjustable mirror you can use warm white (3,000 K) in the morning for a softer feel, then switch to neutral white (4,000 K) or cool white (5,000 K) to check your make-up.

That depends on where the mirror sits in relation to the splash zone. LED mirrors are made for damp rooms, but they have to respect the electrical safety zones set out in the standards in force in Luxembourg. As a rule, the mirror should not be fitted directly in the splash zone. Vitralux and your electrician check that the installation complies when you order.

Yes. Vitralux makes LED mirrors in any size, including large formats and shapes that are not rectangular — round, oval, hexagonal or free-form. The LED system follows the shape of the mirror. For complex shapes, we assess what is feasible against the dimensions and the configuration you want.

Yes. Vitralux works with hotels, spas, wellness centres and property developers. We offer solutions built for volume, with the option of setting one uniform specification across every room or every unit. Get in touch with us directly for any B2B project: we look at each enquiry individually.

Very nearly. Under normal lighting, the semi-transparent glass with the screen off behaves like a very good mirror. There can be a very slight difference in reflectivity between the screen area and the rest of the mirror, noticeable at certain angles or under certain lighting. In practice, in a well-designed bathroom, the effect is minimal and goes unnoticed in everyday use.

Yes, provided the screen is protected in a sealed housing certified for damp rooms. Our TV mirrors are specified for bathrooms with a suitable IP rating. As with the LED mirror, the wiring has to respect the safety zones set out in the applicable electrical standards.

Yes, if a supply is available behind the intended position. If there is not, an electrician will have to run a cable, which may mean some building work. We advise getting in touch at project stage so that we can work out what is feasible without major work.

No. The TV mirror is increasingly asked for in high-end private homes, where it brings a discreet piece of technology into the room. It removes the ugly black frame of an ordinary television and sits perfectly within the look of the space. It suits anywhere you might want to watch television while getting ready or taking a bath.

The TV mirror — the invisible screen that changes your bathroom

The TV mirror is the perfect meeting of design and technology. A high-definition screen sits behind a specially developed semi-transparent glass: with the screen off, the glass behaves like a very high-quality ordinary mirror and the television is completely invisible. With the screen on, the picture comes through the glass with remarkable quality.

Vitralux makes made-to-measure TV mirrors in Luxembourg for hotel suites, the high-end bathrooms of private houses, spas and wellness centres, and anywhere a screen is wanted without giving up the elegance of the room. The TV mirror does away with the black frame of an ordinary television, which never sits well in a high-end bathroom.

Every Vitralux TV mirror is designed to your specification: the overall size of the mirror, the screen diagonal, where the screen sits within the mirror (centred or offset, depending on how it will be used) and the connectivity you want. We coordinate the electrical work with your electrician.

01

The semi-transparent glass

A special glass is used: it is both reflective (like a mirror) and semi-transparent (letting the light from the screen through). With the screen off (black), the glass behaves like an ordinary mirror, because there is no light to come through. When the screen gives out light (a picture), that light passes through the glass and becomes visible.

02

The built-in screen

A high-definition LCD or OLED screen sits directly behind the glass, in a moisture-tight housing suited to a bathroom. The screen is supplied in the diagonal you want, and can be centred or placed in a particular part of the mirror.

03

Connectivity

The screen connects over Wi-Fi or by HDMI cable. Depending on the model, it can receive ordinary television, streamed video, or display content from a hotel management system.

04

The electrical work

A supply behind the mirror is needed to power the screen. As with the LED mirror, that conduit has to be run before the tiling goes on. Vitralux gives you the exact specification when you order.
