The door on wall-to-glass hinges takes the idea of transparency further than any other. Where a conventional door needs a frame, a side post and a lining, this one needs only two or three hinges connecting the edge of the glass straight to the wall. Nothing else. The glass turns on the wall with absolute discretion and absolute elegance.
Vitralux makes doors on wall-to-glass hinges to measure in Luxembourg. The hinges are precision metal components fixed into the wall on one side and into the glass on the other, through holes drilled to within a millimetre. They come in stainless, gold and matt black PVD, and can be wall-to-glass (the hinge is fixed to the wall) or glass-to-glass (the door hangs off an adjoining fixed glass panel).
This configuration is ideal for corridors, runs of rooms, glazed meeting rooms and anywhere visual clutter has to go. It suits high-end residential projects just as well as commercial spaces where every detail counts.

Type 1 — Wall-to-glass hinge
The wall-to-glass hinge is fixed straight into the masonry or into a metal post on one side, and into the glass on the other. It is the system of choice when the door sits against a load-bearing wall or a post stiff enough to take it. The fixing is very strong and allows large doors.

Type 2 — Glass-to-glass hinge
The glass-to-glass hinge connects the glass door to an adjoining fixed glass panel. It is used when there is no wall nearby, or when the whole partition is glazed. The result is more ethereal still: two panes of glass hinged to each other, with no opaque component in sight.

Which glass for your wall-to-glass door?
Parsol tinted
Bronze, grey, green, blue, black. The tint runs through the body of the glass. Partial privacy, softened light. Ideal for office doors and for spaces that want discretion without going dark.
Satinato sandblasted
Translucent: it lets the light through but not the view. Maximum privacy. Ideal for meeting rooms, bathroom doors and anywhere silhouettes must not show.
Decochrome mirrored / gold
A high-end metallic coating, mirrored or gold in effect. For prestige projects — the Arcon Decochrome range.
Laminated glass with a decorative interlayer

Precise to the millimetre, made in our workshop
The holes that take the hinges are drilled in our workshop in annealed glass, before the toughening stage: toughened glass can no longer be worked afterwards. Every hole is placed to within a millimetre so that the door turns perfectly in its opening, with no play and no stress on the glass.

Your questions about doors on wall-to-glass hinges
No, provided the holes are drilled before the glass is toughened. Toughened glass cannot be drilled afterwards: any hole made after toughening shatters the pane on the spot. Vitralux drills every hole in annealed glass, before the toughening stage, which makes the result perfectly safe and perfectly accurate.
For a door of standard height (between 2 m and 2.20 m), two hinges are usually enough provided the glass is 10 mm. For very tall doors (over 2.20 m) or heavier 12 mm doors, three hinges are recommended to spread the loads and keep the door stable for the long term.
Yes — it is one of the most popular places for it. A Satinato glass door on wall-to-glass hinges is the ideal answer for a contemporary bathroom: diffused light preserved, privacy assured, minimal intrusion. Stainless hinges stand up to damp perfectly well. You do need to be sure the adjoining wall is stiff enough to take the hinges.
